Admit it, though, you wouldn't be surprised to find out that Gonzales would be appointed to the Supreme Court--if only so that he could absolve himself of wrongdoing formally in the scandal of the week. After all, Bush did appoint him to the Texas Supreme Court--which says a great deal, both about Bush and Texas.
He isn't appointed to replace Roberts, of course, but it demonstrates the sheer inanity of those purportedly in charge of this country to realize that no one would really be surprised. Disgusted, perhaps, but not surprised. If it happened, it would only be because Cheney said so before Rove could nix the idea. Or perhaps vice versa.
