LITTLE KIDS ROCK!!!111!!!
The Monster has long been a fan of Little Kids Rock, a terrific organization that provides public school kids with free music instruction and free instruments. Indeed, they provide free online instrument instruction to anyone at one of their sites. For all those kids whose arts education has been cut to the bone, if not eliminated entirely, this organization works wonders. The kids who stick with the program can look forward to performing in public events, meeting big name performing artists, recording their own songs and videos and much more. Moreover, those who stick with it more often than not improve their academic performance outside of the music context.
I really just can't say enough about the organization.
In any event, the folks at boingboing.net recently posted a link to a guitar painted by artist Mark Ryden (a perennial boingboing fave), as a part of the Six String Masterpieces Art Guitar Auction, being held at the House of Blues on May 17th in West Hollywood, California, which is going to benefit the Little Kids Rock organization.

Ozzy Osborne, Kelly Clarkson, Slash and over 60 other artists are participating in an auction for us and some of those artists will be doing a benefit concert for us at the House Of Blues on the 17th of May.
If you click through, you'll notice that Dave Navarro is slated to perform and it's rumored that Marilyn Manson and Dave Grohl will also be in attendance. The charity event honors the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, whom you may recall was unceremoniously gunned down by a crazed fan.
There is also a site set up for the guitar auction, so if you can't make the show, at least you can still bid.
