Listen to Grandaddy

posted Friday, 3 February 2006
The cool cool air of the central valley

I'm listening to songs by the group Grandaddy as of this writing...from the album Sumday.  These guys are great.  Very low-key understated quasi-alt, quasi-country folksy, synth inflected music with tasty little pop hooks from Davis, California, if my memory serves well.

I first heard about these guys when I saw them open for the late Elliot Smith.  They started their set by taking what proved to be an annoying (albeit memorable) mechanical bird on a string and setting it in a circular motion, whirling and whirling above the band during the entire set, like a pigeon with OCD.

In any event, I liked their music enough to download some of their albums.  Try em, you might like them, too.
