Gordon Parks passed away yesterday at the age of 93. If you don't know of him or his work, chances are that you have seen his photos or perhaps his movies. A pioneering photojournalist and filmmaker, he began work for Life magazine in 1948 as its first African American photographer. He was the first African American to direct major Hollywood film and eventually directed the hit movie, "Shaft"--for which alone he deserves some props. Take the time to look into the man's life and work and you will be rewarded sevenfold for your efforts. There are a number of documentaries about him.
He will be missed.
