God Rest His Soul

posted Tuesday, 5 September 2006

I wish that there were more like him.

I was so very sorry to hear that Steve Irwin passed away recently.  Say what you will about him and his commitment to the natural world, but he was a brave man.  Entertaining as well, in a childlike way.  He was a committed family man and committed to the creatures that he loved and conserved.

I, for one, will miss him.

I'm surprised about the manner of his death:  rays generally are not as risky as you might think.  I have seen them up close and personal:  they swim up to you like small puppies and their odd mouths gape, looking for some type or treat or purchase.

I and the natural world will miss a good soul.
